Starting this Monday, November 10th, every owner of a cell-phone with a built-in GPS, will be able to participate in the UC Berkeley's Mobile Millenium project. researchers from UC Berkeley's College of Engineering, the Nokia Research Center, and UC Berkeley's California Center for Innovative Transportation are the ones running the operation.
The project is designed to monitor automotive traffic in a revolutionary way. Every person who owns a device with GPS will have to download a software and activate it while driving, this way the information will be sent to a database. It is intended to improve safety and reduce congestion on the roadways.
